Sunday Sewing, new books & quilt

Hi everyone,

Well the past few weeks I have been busy sewing beads & sequins for my daughters dance concert. No crafty fun Sundays for me!

Today I decided I would make some more needle cases for friends & family for xmas presents. I made 10! Didn't take me to long second time around! See pic below!

I also have 2 new books added to my sewing book collection.

'Make It' by Cath Kidston. This was given to me by a friend. Love the projects inside. Lots of different things to make!

I also purchased 'I love patchwork' by Rashida Coleman-Hale. After buying her other book (discussed in my previous post) I ordered it online! it's another zakka book, but using patchwork. I think I'm going to be doing lots of zakka as well as quilting in the future!

Looking forward to making some projects from these fun books in the new year!

I'm also currently making another baby quilt. Hoping to work on this next weekend! Watch this space! Here is a pic of my progress so far! It's only my second quilt I've ever made!

Zakka

Zakka (from the Japanese 'zak-ka'(雑貨)or 'many things') is a fashion and design phenomenon that has spread from Japan throughout Asia. The term refers to everything and anything that improves your home, life and appearance.

On Friday while meeting a friend for dinner in Lygon st I popped into readings bookstore and found a great sewing book titled 'Zakka Style'. Compiled by: Rashida Coleman-Hale.

Most of the patterns have linen, I love linen. I jumped on eBay & ordered a few meters to make some cute stuff from this book!

My first Quilt

Hi everyone, thought I would post up some pics of my first quilt completed today!

That binding took me a while (didn't realise you hand sewed it!) lol A few nights in front of the tv!

I did get help from my friends at our sewing days though, I can't take all the credit!

This has been made for a close friend of mine that is having a baby in match. It took me around 3 months to make.

Fabric:
Bunting was from - Moda Charm Pack ~ Grow with Me ~ Deb Strain, Katie Strain and Arrin Turnmire

Material obsession - quilting inspiration

Material obsession by Sarah Fielke and Kathy Doughty was the first book I saw in borders many years ago. This book pushed me to want to learn to sew.

I then purchased my sewing machine a few months later.

It was my inspiration in wanting to learn the art of quilting.

I am finding I am becoming obsessed with fabric & moda charm packs!

A few of my close family friends (like sisters & aunts) and I have been having sewing days once a month. I am fortunate as they are experienced sewers & quilters.

I am still learning and currently onto my second baby quilt. I do hope to make myself a quilt from this book next, queen size!
